VOLUME 3

The form of Volume 3 does not follow directly that of Volumes 1 and 2 in that there are no discrete chapters; it is one large chapter without the distinctions of the chapters of the first two volumes. However it follows their form by devoting a full page of text opposite each photograph. The function of Volume 3 however is different in that each, or several, pages are devoted to illuminating various subjects that can be considered of academic content with the thought that generating a GENUINE interest in a subject is THE sine qua non of any meaningful learning. Without this genuine interest there will be naught but the “spinning of wheels”. Summarized subjects are those such as biology, chemistry, physics, math, and yes, even English. Actually the subjects are more eclectic than the above. Some discussions are somewhat obtuse (“hey, nothing worthwhile is easy”) while others are a joy (the basis of all real learning). I’ve included things such as meteorology and gasoline engine operation as changes of pace. Finally, there is a 50-page segment (“primer”) on the U.S. Constitution that lays out the basics of our “social contract”. These books are not meant to be scholarly; rather they are one person’s views subject to examination by those of serious demeanor. If you will, they are tools for the purpose of learning and self- examination. They are “open textbooks” for one and all.
